Cloud computing is a style of computing in which dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources are provided as a service over the Internet.Users need not have knowledge of, expertise in, or control over the technology infrastructure in the "cloud" that supports them.

Economy Gets Small Business in The Cloud
The need for companies to cut costs and increase productivity means one thing for Technology professionals, Cloud computing. Start-ups are being formed, venture capitalists are doling out cash, and big companies such as Amazon, EMC, Google, and CISCO are formulating strategies and announcing cloud computing offerings. Instead of buying hardware and software that must be listed as large, one-time capital expenses ,paying a monthly fee for cloud services is a smaller, ongoing operating expense. Cloud computing users pay only for the services they need which offers Scalability of capacity as needed.
Small and midsize businesses will be the first to integrate cloud-based services, while bigger companies will take longer to figure out how these services relate to their existing operations, whether they’re secure and reliable enough, and whether they comply with all sorts of regulatory requirements. But the appeal is that cloud-based services can cut the costs of all sorts of IT operations like storage and number-crunching and payment processing, while giving companies the flexibility to simply pay a higher monthly fee as they grow – or pay less when they shrink.
Shrinking IT budgets, have prompted many IT managers to look for any possible way to maximize cost savings, the number of cloud computing subscribers worldwide will grow rapidly over the next five years lead by small and medium sized businesses that need to improve productivity while lowering bottom line costs. The best thing that happened to the cloud was the downturn in the economy an this global recession. The main driver toward cloud computing is not only the efficiency but the cost savings.

Hi,
I find a lot of hype more than new substance, in trying to sell existing wine in new bottles. The concept of cloud computing or whatever simpler understandable phrases one can use to convey one ideas has been in existence ever since data communication came to be a reality. What is cloud computing? Simply put, what you are saying is that one can use the computing resources not owned by oneself, and not physically visible to one, not managed by one and not invested in by one for purpose of carrying out data processing of any kind. This is what has been happening in the case of email services, internet itself, data backup services, SaaS, security, antispam, syndicated ERPO, CRM, SCM, online trading, and several services like that. What is happening is that instead of buying or selling teh tool, teh service is being purchased or sold as desired by one. Service provider is in the (profession) business of planning, procuring, installing, operating, maintaining, upgrading of the complete infrastructure that wil enable him to sell the services meeting certain agreed SLAs. May be teh hype is due to the first time it is being tried out in teh IT industry or even to create a hype with commercials in mind. Let’s take the case of electricity, water supply, municipal services, education, health care,…. In all these cases this model has been followed for decades / centuries. Th electricity producer, transmitter, supplier is an entity different from the consumer. In fact the package of services under one entity such as an electricity supplier who did everything is now being disintegrated (unbundled) into its various components as specialised areas of business. As I see this is what is happening behind all teh hype in the IT industry too. May be teh noise is due to its apparent novelty to trick the uninitiated into believing taht it is something from mars and hence high price is justified (exclusivity) at least till it becomes a commodity just like anything else that ahs happened in the ICT industry. Just a means of skimming the market in the very short till the customer gets intelligent
I remember when IBM used to lease out space on thier “servers”. That was cloud computing way back then. Now is different though it has become where you can lease just about all aspects of your companies infrastructure. Clodu computing may have been around for a while now , but nothing like its current form or whats to come.
