According to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer “India will not only see a surge in cloud computing services but companies all over the world will look to India to support their transition to cloud computing,’’ . Companies are betting big on cloud services and the business is estimated to grow to $70 billion adding an additional 300,000 jobs in India by 2015.

India will move more directly to the cloud and will be a huge catalyst in enabling a wave of IT adoption throughout India. According survey results, 76% in India want to virtualize and adopt cloud computing in the next 18 months. Globalization and the need for businesses to be able to quickly adopt to new and changing technologies will will help push cloud development. This push toward the cloud will help grow the cloud development space and increase the need for IT companies in India to accelerate adoption and practices around cloud services.

Cumbersome proprietary systems that make it difficult for new technologys to be deployed are more of a problem for the developed counties than they are for the developing counties and India will seize the opportunity to adopt new and simpler technology. Spending in India on Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), a key component of cloud computing, is anticipated to rise by a 43% in 2011.

Steady demand and the proliferation of consumer devices will require the cloud development companies and the industries that rely on them to make enormous investments in Cloud Services. India has a strategic advantage in this new technology revolution that will allow it to mark its place in this part of history.

Database.com is essentially and plug-and-play storage infrastructure for any developers, using any language, platform or device. It comes with toolkits for connecting apps that run natively on mobile platforms. It also includes a social data model that makes it easy to build apps with profiles, status updates, news feeds and groups.

You can build your apps in any language, like Java, C#, Ruby or PHP. Run them on any platform, like Force.com, VMforce, Amazon EC2 or Google AppEngine. Or run them on any device, like the iPhone, the iPad, Android or Blackberry. They can all securely access Database.com through standards based APIs, like REST, SOAP, OAuth and SAML.

As Salesforce CEO and founder Marc Benioff says: “We see cloud databases as a massive market opportunity that will power the shift to real-time enterprise applications that are natively cloud, mobile and social.”

Cisco and BMC Software announced a strategic alliance to develop and market new solutions for large-scale multi-tenant cloud computing infrastructures. Under the alliance, the two companies are aligning product development roadmaps and technology architectures to offer worldwide customers a complete suite of solutions that simplify and automate the delivery of cloud services. As part of the alliance, Cisco and BMC announced the availability of a new cloud solution, the Integrated Cloud Delivery Platform, that is designed to meet the requirements of service providers and large-scale private cloud computing environments. This new joint solution helps cloud providers easily deploy end-to-end cloud services running on a cloud computing infrastructure that spans data center networks, computing systems, storage and applications.

Bob Beauchamp, chairman, and CEO for BMC Software said:

“As cloud computing evolves from a strategic idea to a business reality, companies are quickly discovering the complexities of deploying and managing cloud solutions in a hybrid data center. BMC’s alliance with Cisco will enable our customers with large-scale cloud computing environments to make mission-critical cloud services a practical reality for their demanding businesses and customers. IT organizations can be more nimble, cost-efficient, scalable, and, most importantly, better aligned to the business.”

Red Hat, today announced that it has acquired Makara, a developer of deployment and management solutions for applications in the cloud. Makara’s technologies will accelerate the development of Red Hat’s comprehensive Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solution as part of its Cloud Foundations portfolio.

Based in Redwood City, Calif., Makara provides solutions to enable organizations to deploy, manage, monitor and scale their applications on both private or public clouds. Customers facing issues in moving applications to the cloud and managing them efficiently can benefit from Makara’s solutions for scaling, rightsizing, rollback and monitoring. By integrating the JBoss Enterprise Middleware infrastructure with Makara’s Cloud Application Platform, Red Hat can offer a more comprehensive PaaS solution that allows organizations to quickly transition their applications to both public and private clouds with minimal modifications.

“Cloud Foundations is about enabling customers and developers to have an easy on-ramp to the cloud. With the addition of Makara, we aim to further simplify application deployment and management,” said Paul Cormier, president of Products and Technologies at Red Hat. “We welcome the Makara team and look forward to accelerating our delivery of PaaS solutions to the market.”

Red Hat introduced Cloud Foundations in June 2010. Red Hat is in a unique position as the only vendor that has the infrastructure needed to deliver a complete, open source, flexible cloud stack, incorporating operating system, middleware and virtualization. Based on JBoss Enterprise Middleware, Red Hat PaaS seeks to be the solution within the portfolio that will allow enterprises, cloud service providers, ISVs and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) providers to take existing assets and develop new applications and deploy them to a wide range of public and private clouds. With Red Hat, enterprises, cloud service providers, ISVs and SaaS providers can leverage their existing skills without rewriting applications.

“PaaS is becoming another market for software vendors looking to deliver compelling enterprise solutions in the cloud,” said Rachel Chalmers, research director at the 451 Group. “By acquiring the cloud technologies developed by Makara, Red Hat is now in a position to address this market by creating solutions for enterprises looking for deployment, management and auto-scaling capabilities to be baked into the core platform.”

Red Hat plans to make Red Hat PaaS available as software offered as a service in public or private clouds to help developers and organizations build, deploy and manage the entire life cycle of applications. Makara’s tools, technologies and solutions will be fully integrated with Red Hat PaaS, as part of the Cloud Foundations portfolio.

The Open Data Center Alliance, a coalition of more than 70 leading businesses that together represent more than $50 billion in annual IT investment and that have cloud research or projects underway. Alliance Steering Committee members include BMW*, China Life*, Deutsche Bank*, J.P. Morgan Chase*, Lockheed Martin*, Marriott International, Inc.*, National Australia Bank*, Shell*, Terremark* and UBS*.The alliance will lay out future hardware and software requirements that lead to more open and interoperable cloud and data center solutions. Intel plays a unique advisory role within the alliance, whose initial membership is focused on end user companies rather than technology providers.

“The industry has an opportunity to accelerate the potential of cloud computing, delivering even better industry economics through this transformation,” said Kirk Skaugen, vice president and general manager, Intel Data Center Group. “With the Open Data Center Alliance we now have the world’s top businesses focused and actively engaged with Intel and the high-tech industry, accelerating solutions to the cloud’s key challenges. The server industry has gone through an amazing transformation since the Intel Pentium® Pro’s introduction in 1995; our goal is to ensure that cloud computing continues to deliver breakthrough economics based on the same fundamental principle —innovation on open, interoperable standards.”

Salesforce.com rolls out Chatter 2, the company’s next generation of enterprise social collaboration.

Leveraging the social features popularized by Facebook, Google and Twitter, like profiles, status updates and real-time feeds, Chatter 2 empowers enterprises with a new level of productivity. With Chatter, enterprises can collaborate around more than just documents, and employees can also follow people, business processes and application data.

“The momentum behind Salesforce Chatter is astounding,” said Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO, salesforce.com. “The excitement we see from the industry and our customers is proof that the feed is the new desktop.”

Since launching Chatter into general availability three months ago, more than 20,000 companies including Hitachi , Misys, Reed Exhibitions and Softbank have deployed Salesforce Chatter. The breakthrough technology has allowed salesforce.com to expand beyond CRM, and bring a new wave of collaboration to employees across the enterprise.

Salesforce.com re-architected all of its apps to use the social, mobile and real-time capabilities of Chatter. Now with Chatter 2, customers can realize tremendous success and new levels of productivity with innovations, including:

● Chatter Filters: Chatter Filters enables employees to quickly find and focus on only the relevant posts they need at any given time by filtering their Chatter Feed by the groups, people and records they follow.

● Chatter Topics: With Chatter Topics, employees can associate their updates with other posts and comments on the same topic by using a hashtag (#). Combined with Chatter Search, employees can find updates and comments that match any Chatter topic.

● Chatter Recommendations: With Chatter Recommendations, employees receive smart, automatic suggestions of colleagues to follow and groups to join. Chatter recommends people based on criteria such as connections in common, number of followers, and management hierarchy. Similarly, public groups are recommended based on their popularity and relevance to that employee.

● Chatter Desktop: Powered by Adobe® AIR®, Chatter Desktop allows employees to post updates, comments, files and links without opening a web browser, and displays pop-up alerts to instantly notify employees of important updates.

● Chatter Analytics: With Chatter Analytics, admins can create reports and dashboards on Chatter usage in their company across users as well as their followers, feeds, comments, groups, members, and group comments. This intelligence feature gives visibility into the major contributors and how people are using Chatter, with the ability to segment usage and determine best practices.

● Chatter Files: Employees can store, update, and share documents, presentations, photos and media files in one place. With Chatter Files, people can now follow files shared by colleagues and receive a Chatter update once a new version is posted so they always have the current version.

● Dashboard Chatter: Dashboard Chatter empowers employees with the ability to follow and get dashboard updates in their real-time feeds. They can stay tuned to discussions around dashboard data such as sales funnels and close rates, and collaborate with colleagues to get collective insight from the community to speed up and improve decision making.

● Report Chatter: With Report Chatter, employees can follow reports that are important to them and get updates within their feed and allowing them to be active members of the conversations around critical issues.

● Activity Chatter: Employees can now track the progress of important tasks and get notifications on calendar and meeting updates. Activity Chatter allows employees to collaborate with colleagues on customer calls and meeting agendas within the task or event record, reducing e-mails and phone calls.

● Chatter Central: Chatter Central offers employees new to Chatter with a guided checklist of how to get started so they can make the most of their experience.

● Chatter Search: Chatter Search allows employees to search across every Chatter feed, file, profile, update and comment in real-time to get a comprehensive view on a given keyword or customer.

● Chatter E-mail Manager: With Chatter E-mail Manager, employees can configure their email notification settings and choose the frequency and scope of emails sent by Chatter.

● Chatter E-mail Digest: Employees can now receive a daily or weekly Chatter email digest of the latest Chatter posts from their feed or group feeds.
