Airpay Payment Services is a well-established, India-headquartered financial services and payments platform that helps consumers, businesses, banks, and financial institutions transact and manage money securely. Built on more than a decade of experience in payments aggregation, Airpay works with over 200 financial institutions and more than 1,000 business partners to deliver an integrated, omnichannel payments experience.
As Airpay’s business scaled, its on-premises datacenter began to run into capacity constraints, while the security and compliance obligations of operating a payments platform placed growing demands on the team. Managing consistent scalability across a large number of application and database servers became increasingly complex, and delivering uniform security controls — server protection, data backup, and compliance management — introduced significant operational overhead.
From an infrastructure security standpoint, key requirements included:
✓ Scalable compute and database infrastructure to support continued business growth beyond datacenter capacity
✓ Consistent, well-governed security controls across every application and database server
✓ Continuous, centralized visibility into infrastructure security posture
✓ Strong compliance controls suitable for a regulated payments business
✓ Round-the-clock monitoring and rapid incident response
✓ Resilient, business-continuity-ready infrastructure to protect critical payment operations
Given the sensitivity of financial transaction data and the regulatory obligations of the payments industry, Airpay needed a trusted partner to design a secure, continuously monitored, and compliant cloud foundation — without disrupting live payment operations.
Cloud Migration & Compute
✓ Amazon EC2 instances were provisioned to host Airpay’s application workloads, replacing datacenter capacity constraints with elastic, on-demand compute.
✓ Amazon RDS was implemented to run and manage Airpay’s database servers, simplifying scaling across multiple databases and reducing the operational burden of manual database administration.
✓ A hybrid architecture connected the new AWS environment with Airpay’s existing datacenter, enabling a phased, low-risk migration.
Identity & Access Management
✓ IAM users were configured with least-privilege access to enforce strict, role-based control over every AWS resource.
✓ Multi-factor authentication (MFA) was enabled for privileged accounts, adding a second layer of protection against unauthorized access.
✓ Servers were deployed in private subnets, removing direct internet exposure for critical application and database components.
Cloud Security Posture Management
✓ Rudra Sentinel was enabled as the central Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) capability, delivering continuous, automated assessment of the security posture of every AWS account against AWS Foundational Security Best Practices and CIS benchmarks.
✓ AWS Config rules ran continuously to identify security misconfigurations, non-compliant resources, and emerging risks across the environment, with findings flowing directly into Rudra Sentinel for centralized triage.
✓ Customizable security policies and guardrails were implemented using AWS Config custom rules, Service Control Policies (SCPs), and account-level guardrails, allowing controls to be tailored to payments-industry compliance requirements while preventing configuration drift.
✓ Rudra Sentinel’s integration aggregated and correlated findings from AWS Config, Amazon GuardDuty, Amazon Inspector, and IAM Access Analyzer into a single, prioritized compliance and risk dashboard, giving the team one consolidated view of posture across every account and resource.
✓ Automated remediation workflows, built using AWS Systems Manager Automation runbooks and AWS Lambda functions triggered through Amazon EventBridge, resolved common findings such as open security groups, unencrypted resources, and non-compliant IAM policies without manual intervention, shrinking the time between detection and fix.
Threat Monitoring & Incident Response
✓ AWS CloudTrail and Amazon GuardDuty were enabled to provide continuous, intelligent threat detection alongside a complete audit trail of account activity.
✓ Our SOC (Security Operations Center) service layered continuous threat monitoring and incident response on top of these AWS-native controls, ensuring rapid triage of suspicious activity.
24/7 Infrastructure & Network Monitoring
✓ Our NOC (Network Operations Center) service provided round-the-clock monitoring and management of infrastructure and network performance, keeping Airpay’s payment services available and responsive.
Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
✓ Disaster recovery services were implemented to protect Airpay’s business-critical payment workloads and support rapid recovery in the event of a disruption.
Edge Security & Content Delivery
✓ Amazon CloudFront and AWS WAF were deployed to accelerate content delivery and protect Airpay’s customer-facing services from common web exploits and unwanted traffic at the edge.
The entire infrastructure was designed following AWS best practices and the AWS Well-Architected Framework, with security and compliance considerations tailored to the payments industry.
✓ Successfully transitioned Airpay’s application and database workloads from a capacity-constrained datacenter to a scalable, hybrid AWS architecture.
✓ Simplified and standardized scaling across multiple database servers using Amazon RDS, reducing administrative overhead.
✓ Strengthened security posture through least-privilege IAM, multi-factor authentication, private subnets, and continuous threat detection with GuardDuty and CloudTrail.
✓ Continuous cloud security posture management — covering account assessment, misconfiguration detection, customizable guardrails, and automated remediation — reduced manual security effort and shrank the exposure window for security findings.
✓ Improved incident response readiness through dedicated SOC monitoring, backed by 24/7 NOC oversight of infrastructure and network performance.
✓ Enhanced resilience and business continuity for critical payment services through dedicated disaster recovery.
✓ Faster, more secure content delivery for customer-facing services through Amazon CloudFront and AWS WAF.
✓ Positioned Airpay to scale its omnichannel payments platform with confidence, backed by a secure and compliant AWS foundation.
